I just jumped the gun.
I’m still the fastest runner—
To get a red card.

I am the main protagonist.
As if it isn’t me…
And you all are antagonists,
Your side is blind—you’ll see.
I will keep an open mind,
As long as we agree.
But if we are not aligned—
I’ll force your empathy.
It’s not your home—it’s my frontier.
My culture comes correct.
And if you wish to disappear,
Just demand some respect.

From Rookie of the Year to the Greatest
What new players did, Willie Mays made it
Superstar made The Catch with 12 times Gold Glove
5’11” Giant, 5-tool went above
All accolades he got he deserved
And touched base with blacks underserved
Military man even after he’d serve
He could hit ‘em all—fast, straight, or curve
So, don’t say goodbye to the Say Hey Kid
It’s more like “See You Later” instead
And if there’s a heaven, they’d ask what you couldn’t do
The answer is lose, Willie Mays stays true.

The meal we share and eat runs red
For all the black blood the slaves shed,
As white men raped them in the shed
In Southern schools—you won’t have read.
We sing the blues to get us by
Forgiveness that our country blew.
But this Juneteenth blacks say goodbye:
Ancestors at Atlantic blue.
