Mother

The dread that draaaaags the day…
How mothers make the month of May!
So—Dare I speak? No—Should I say?
If only words would work to sway.

What can I do to make us even
Your sage advice, your wisdom, reason
Were ignored by me through every season
But moms forgive us for our treason

Please use other door

“Please use other door”
This is the sign they still ignore
Now all those nearby have to freeze
So much for spring. You feel that breeze?

Look, you’re letting in all the cold air
As we sit by an “exit”, expecting more
Expecting less—Clueless customers could not care
Yes, “Please use other door”.

The Fool

There are those that take their time
Calm, collected, cool
Simple, silent as a mime
You know them as The Fool

They stay away, averting eyes
Their dirty, dusty glasses
But it’s a trick—the true surprise
That’s how they mock the masses

For when it’s dark, they spring to life
And discard the façade
They save the day and stop the strife
The heroes we call “weird” and “odd”

Roadkill

Roadkill, Roadkill, lying still…
Roadkill—are you dead for real?
Roadkill, you could be my meal.
Roadkill, how your guts just spill!

A fox—cunning and ever sly
Deceitful, shady, sketchy eyes
Weren’t quick enough to spot the truck
Now that loser’s outta luck

A possum—is he playing dead?
With his body hanging by a thread
His head almost decapitated
Well, crossing streets is overrated

My deer—you were gone too soon
You jetted out at night, past noon
And the same day we saw you there
Bloodied body, broken bare

Earth Day

Great Gaia grows more bitter
One day dedicated to Mother Earth
Tomorrow’s time to toss and litter
I wonder what it all was worth

We like to look upon the stars
While we eradicate our roots
Better get used to life on Mars
Self-destruction—sow it suits
