The meal we share and eat runs red
For all the black blood the slaves shed,
As white men raped them in the shed
In Southern schools—you won’t have read.

We sing the blues to get us by
Forgiveness that our country blew.
But this Juneteenth blacks say goodbye:
Ancestors at Atlantic blue.
