The ancient Celts saw spirits cross Returning to their former home And spoke with sons who heard the loss Of souls at rest who only roam. They ate with ancestors gone And told them of the year And just as they were getting on November 1st, the last would disappear. The time transformed and mumming ended But now we trick or treat So we dress up as they pretended So the Slaugh would face defeat. Now is a day of carnival A liminal phase of fun Where you can have another soul And become anyone.
