Without U.S.

Don’t believe the lies about us.
The lies about us are the lies about U.S.
It’s hard to hate when you have the truth,
Rosa helped Recy but they just mention the bus,
Whitewashed the fiery figure of youth.
Marley was a Pan-Africanist rebel,
A religious leader on a higher level.
Yet the media made him merely a stoner.
King was a hero doused and drowned with hose after hose
He had the same Irish blood as the cops who’d oppose
Slave owners raped us and their blood runs through our vein,
Yet the white supremacists think they’re on a higher plane?
Yeah, and that’s so logical and sane.
Remember, there is no U.S. without us.

“The train is empty,”
Are words no one’s ever said.
Ah, delayed again.

Everyone

Everyone thinks that they’re right.
Everyone thinks that they can write.
Everyone can write.
Few can write well.

Everyone thinks that they can do your job.
Ah, the mentality of the mindless mob…
Everyone thinks they know it all.
But that’s not thinking at all…

Stone Turned

Your magazine’s a platform for prejudice.
The greatest artists of all time—says who?
No women and blacks on that top five list,
Yet without them your list wouldn’t exist.
You celebrate rock without rock and roll.
You say we’re not articulate?
But you throw away jazz, with its sophistication.
Wenner’s a loser.
And where would rock be without the blues?
Oh, the artists that you pick and choose.
Oh, some of them are great for sure—
But who were the Stones named for?
Who really opened up that door?
How could a rich man be so poor…
