In DC lives a young man called Ken.
He did research to find all his kin.
He looked black as the night.
But his cousins were white.
So, they could not accept him within.

Leveling Up

I’m a physician with the pen, how I heal
I make it flow the way I know, to be real
Still, like a symbol I can’t be killed
I put the pride back in Black
You better see your best self
An open book, never put me on the shelf
My style is versatile, all the while I seem mild
But the paradox is wild like whoa
I’m the fire and the gasoline
My rhymes so nice but the flow is mean
So many tried to do me dirty, but I stay serene
Maintain peace of mind because I gaze on my grind
Like I’m leveling up yet it’s never enough
I want more, I been to hell and back like the God of War
I told you I can’t be killed cause I fight for poor,
Oppressed; those you call “other” will not be ignored.

Mirror

What is a mirror for, in this day and age,
Where introspection died
And youth will not decay?
Who needs a mirror,
When you have a phone.
You can just take selfies,
And leave your date alone.
Why look to mirrors,
As symbols to reflect?
When if I don’t look like you,
You show me no respect.
Where are the mirrors?
They must have disappeared.
In this time of guns and hate,
You are the thing you’ve feared.
Mirrors are the shadow,
The dark side of the soul.
It takes more than breaking mirrors,
To dig yourself a hole.

Scoring with a skyhook that shoots for the stars
Outta this world writer, check Veronica Mars
Changing his name, all the while changing the game
Lettin’ Dave know what’s the nature of fame

Introverted, intellectual, and invested in all
Kickin’ it with Bruce—he could do more than ball
Writing for the kids about black heroes, unsung to them
While securing spots for us in the world of STEM.
