Born free to captivate and master, But only free by means of law. She sculpted souls from clay and plaster And struck success with Colonel Shaw. She never stopped despite the spite, Rome found her ever more acclaim. And Oberlin could not destroy her might, Though history might forget her name. I will refuse to let it be, The artist who was a soldier strong. Remember the power held by she— Edmonia will echo long.
