Long Hair

My school has a short hair policy
It’s called no dreads or braids
But I saw a dude rockin’ a mullet
I guess that don’t make ‘em ‘fraid

Long Hair’s against the rules
They scream and they shout
But it ain’t really Long Hair
We know what they about

Something More

I strike with the fury of Cassius
Sublime and in his prime
With the wisdom of Ali
Turn a profit from my rhymes
Cash is nice, but I mean something more
Poverty is not the thing that makes a man poor
While the rich get richer, I get more sly
I attack the elite with witticisms so wry
Gemini, twin like Frye
I switch my styles, so Furious
Leave enemies delirious
So young and mysterious
Call Holmes and Watson
I’m too quick to cover like Jahan Dotson
Let that be a lesson if you like Pat Boone
I’m Paul Atreides and the world is my Dune

February

Ah, February, the longest month of the year.
It’s not usually cold at all.
The skies are sunny and clear.
And everyone’s out late, having a ball.

Ah, February, Black History Month is here.
We’ve turned the worst into the best.
The weather and the number of days disappear
As February is another time of joy and unrest.

Every month is Black History Month.
February is not unique.
We are more than our struggles—
There is love here too.
