Do Good

                                              History is now.
		             Do good, young black leader.
Being good is doing good—and our ancestors are proud when we do 
                                                    good,
              But our descendants are better off when we do good.
                             Doing good is better than doing well.
      When we do good, we teach the future that hope is a tangible 
                                                  thing,
             Not an idea or a construct to make ourselves feel better.
             Doing good is being better than those who came before
      And encouraging those who will come after to do better than you.
			              Doing good is selfless.
		                 You too will be an ancestor.
			                    History is now.

What if Ali surrendered to silence?
What if Malcolm never changed his mind about who could be redeemed?
What if Rosa stood aside while Recy suffered violence?
What if John never forgave those who almost took his life?
What if Langston turned his back on black people?
What if James never wrote about American strife?
What if Tubman was brainwashed to believe that slavery wasn’t evil?

Good Morning, Greatness

Good morning, Greatness.
I tell myself this everyday because it’s true. 
The world wants to turn blackness to blue.
I achieve Greatness.
I do this everyday by writing to make my black and Indigenous ancestors proud.
The world wants to shut us up, but like Ali—we are free, powerful, and loud.
Goodbye, Greatness—
Is something that I will never speak because Greatness is not inside of me.
Greatness is me. I am Greatness. Black is greatness. America, Caribbean, Africa, Latin—
All branches of the tree.
Good night, Greatness.
I’ll see you tomorrow, rise again, and simply Be.

A spell from a mage.

The key to the cage.

Quelling a rage.

From pitch black to beige.
Blackness is wisdom,
The learned sage.

I’ve got the good luck blues.
And I don’t know how to live.
Got the good luck blues.
And I don’t know how to live.

Well, this mornin’ my alarm
Woke me up on time,
And the bracelet on my arm
Didn’t turn the color lime.

I’ve got the good luck blues
And I’m not sure if it’s real.
Got the good luck blues.
Being happy makes me ill.

On time, I made the train.
In fact, I was early.
I just beat the rain,
And not a passenger was surly.

I’ve got the good luck blues
And it’s gotta be a dream.
The good luck blues,
My smile’s gonna be a meme.

I completed all my work
And had room for hobbies too.
The boss wasn’t a jerk,
Yet I’m still feelin’ blue.

I got the good luck blues
And I can’t shake ‘em off.
It’s like a sudden cold
But the laughs replaced the cough.
