Red Wave

Try to drown us in lies to gain power
Racist reporter turned politician
Election deniers turned sour
Congratulations on your failed mission.

The Red Wave never came
And now the fools have an excuse to blame
Their great leader whose victory would be HUGE
But the smart ones saw through their subterfuge.

Veteran

There are no songs for the valorous veteran
So many sacrificed themselves abroad
Those who survived still suffered scars
Names unknown and never to laud.

Men who got medals in another land
But received none from their own
Restaurants, hotels, towns had them banned
And forget the benefits they were owed.

Men who fought in every war
While the elite got richer
And they stayed poor
They died for us—yet we ignore.

Women who served and saved lives
Denied the right to dine with fellow Officers
Mothers, Sisters, Daughters, Wives
Their sacrifice still survives.

Old Western

Whenever I see the old western
I see the sturdy, stocky, sure-fire shooters
BANG!
They never miss and never learn
Move over for the land looters

All the cowboys look the same
And they the heroes sent by Christ
BANG!
Sanctified to murder, maim
And build their homes from divine heist

Go West

It’s time to go west
Said the men with big plans
And bigger guns in their vest
How history’s arc spans.

There is no expanse
To the frontiersman’s greed
To their tune you’ll dance
Or on air—you’ll bleed.

Settlers

When I read the history books
I see the writer’s settled on “settlers”—fleeing from the Crown
Not known as robbers or crooks
Those who would uproot the first—from Plymouth to Down.

I see the word “founder” applied in place of “thief”
To the implacable invaders
Spreading strife, disease, and grief.
All hail the raiders.
