August Night

Up in my room—one August Night
I heard a patter—pit pat pit pat
The thunder froze my dog in fright
And lightning posed—but I just sat
I’m cool like jazz—that’s what I thought
But then I felt it and I was caught!

Pit pat pit pat—it came back
And then I felt it in my hair
My eyes zapped up—and saw the crack
And nature shot quick through the tear
I tried to dodge—but it was done
The August Night is always fun

The Island

Separated by sea, surrounded by blue
We were one, now split in two
The sunken ships, each sailor’s soul
The storm persists, she takes her toll

No visitors in sight, keep company close
A palm tree’s shadow, a crab at coast
The ruthless sun, the mocking moon
The different days, from noon to noon
